Lakeview Academy’s Parent Association is hosting the Parenting Speakers Series with parenting advice for kindergarten through 12th grade. The first presentation is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. "Taming the Gaming" will be an expert panel discussion about the pros and cons of online gaming. The panelist include:
Jon Preston, Ph.D., founder of the Center for Applied Gaming & Media Arts, SPSU
Mike Orey, Ed. D., Associate Professor Game, Design & Development, UGA
Amy Davis, Ph.D., Clinical Psychologist
The recent focus on violence in video games and the effect on the human brain has many parents nationwide questioning the dangers. With the popularity of children’s games such as "Skylanders" and "Minecraft," parents may not know the pitfalls and benefits of gaming.
The discussion will focus not just on boys who game, but also on girls who equally play. Parents may bring their questions about what children and teens should and shouldn’t do in regards to gaming.
The panel is free and does not require a reservation. All events will be held in the Lakeview Academy Student Center, 796 Lakeview Drive, in Gainesville.
