Read with Gracie program awards area volunteers
Will Crain, left, and Andrew Jones, right, won $500 and $150 prizes for their participation in the Read with Gracie program. Mike McWhorter started the program with Gracie.

Johnson High School students Will Crain and Andrew Jones received prizes of $500 and $150 respectively through the Read with Gracie program.

Started in 2012 by Mike and Shelley McWhorter, the Read with Gracie program’s goal is to help special needs students increase their reading skills in a fun, relaxed environment. Gracie, who was certified to work in ministry through the Canines for Christ program, helps relax the special needs students while volunteers read to them aloud. Crain and Jones were awarded prizes for their participation as volunteers in the program.
