Northeast Georgia Veterans Society President Ron Webb presented local artist Luciano Georgescu with a certificate of appreciation on June 25 at the opening summer art exhibit at Helen Arts & Heritage.

Luciano is a featured artist in “Summer Dreamin’” exhibit, along with photographer Carolyn Gaik.

The local veterans group initiated a project recently involving the design of a memorial monument honoring those members of the armed forces from White County who were killed in action.

They summoned the help of Georgescu, a graphic design and sketch artist, to complete the desired image. The Killed In Action Memorial will be erected in Cleveland’s Freedom Park.

Webb also presented Helen Arts Center President Nancy Ackerman a certificate of appreciation for the center’s support of and dedication to military veterans.

The arts center is sponsoring a six-week art workshop for veterans, beginning today. The workshop is offered at no charge to qualified veterans through a partnership with Help Hospitalized Veterans of Winchester, Calif.

The Northeast Georgia Veterans Society meets on the third Thursday of each month at Wendell’s Country Restaurant, 5012 Helen Highway at 11:30 a.m. Contact Webb at jrwgman@yahoo.com for additional information. Those interested in participating in the art workshop for veterans at Helen Arts & Heritage are encouraged to contact Ackerman at 706-969-1688 to register.
