Six maple trees were planted at Jefferson Elementary School in celebration of Georgia's Arbor Day on Feb. 20. The trees will provide shade near the school's play set. The maple trees were donated by Richard Wilson Landscaping of Jefferson and Pinebush Nursery in Hull.
FFA and 4-H club members from Hall County recently competed in the Jackson Electric Membership Corporation's 40th annual Quality Beef Show.
Kids from six Northeast Georgia counties entered 121 animals in the competition, held Feb. 7, at the Jackson County Comprehensive High School Livestock Center.
Hall County 4-H member Joshua Waters took home the Chi Influence Breed Champion award.
Competitors in the Quality Beef Show use the experience to help prepare for the upcoming statewide competition in Perry. Jackson EMC sponsors the Quality Beef Show to honor the contribution the agriculture industry makes to Northeast Georgia's economy, as well as to encourage leadership skills and a competitive spirit among the area's young people.
First Presbyterian Church's Child Development Center recently finished its annual collection of items to be donated to the Hall County Humane Society. The Gainesville day care and prekindergarten center collected 15 bags of dog food, along with numerous cans of pet food, towels, blankets and other items for the animals at the shelter.
Keith Davis of Jefferson passed the first level of auditions for the TV show "America's Got Talent," held recently in Atlanta. Davis is a musician who played a Native American flute for the judges. His audition was recorded and it is now up to the show's producers whether he will be sent to Miami for the next round of competition.
He said he will find out soon about making it to the next round. "I really just went down to see how it worked," he said. "I never, ever thought I would make it past the first level."
The Holly Theatre Competition Team for 12- to 18-year-olds won the top ranking of Superior at The National Performing Arts Festival in the Bahamas for the second year, earning the chance to perform for a cruise ship as part of the advertised entertainment. The group performed "Footloose."
The team also took workshops by a Disney talent instructor.
