Janie Dempsey Watts (seated), nominated as Georgia Author of the Year for her book "Moon Over Taylor's Ridge," gave a presentation and signed copies of her book at a recent meeting of the Northeast Georgia Writers at the Peach State Bank, Gainesville. As both the first major Quinlan Visual Arts Center exhibition and event of 2013, the 35th annual Gala Art Auction features the highest caliber original artwork by local, regional and national talents. This year artwork was juried by acclaimed art appraiser Robert Morring. The following placed awards:

First place: Joe Baskerville, "A Passion Of Red," mixed media

Second place: Bob McGill, "Close To Me, Close To You," acrylic on recycled wood

Third place: Stan Susky, "Number 9," photography

Honorable mention: Joyce Hornor, "Mountain King," oil
