The Future Homebuilders Association pairs a volunteer contractor with a school building program. This allows the contractor to work alongside the instructor at the school. High school building classes can set up field trips to building sites and building material plants, the contractor can share their experiences and expertise with the students in the classroom and can assist the instructor in the classroom. The program has been implemented in the Hall County high schools and the Gainesville city school system. It was developed and spearheaded by Mike Hollimon, president of the Gainesville-Hall County Home Builders Association. Hollimon solicited the help of Phil Gruber, Gainesville inspection services assistant manager, to provide International Council Code books for the teachers of the area high schools’ construction programs. Gruber also obtained copies of the International Residential Code and the International Plumber’s Code, which were presented to each school at the Gainesville Building and Planning Department.
