The North Georgia Community Foundation recently announced that it has awarded $187,500 in scholarships to local high school students pursuing higher education this fall.

The Hall County students receiving scholarships are as follows:

Brenau Academy: Ho-Kyoung Lee, $1,000 from the Kiwanis Club of Gainesville — Thurmond Youth Arts Scholarship Fund

Chestatee High School: Leah Kopietz, $1,000 from the Mar-Jac Poultry Scholarship Fund; Bridget Neukum, $500 from the Northeast Georgia School Superintendent’s Scholarship Fund; Graham Taylor, $500 from the Northeast Georgia School Superintendent’s Scholarship Fund

East Hall High School: Haley Chapman, $1,000 from the Mar-Jac Poultry Scholarship Fund; Kendyl Turk, $1,000 from the Northeast Georgia School Superintendent’s Scholarship Fund; Autumn Mullinax, $2,500 from the William T. Carlisle Scholarship Fund

Flowery Branch High School: Nidia Bland, $2,500 from the Jenny Melton Scholarship Fund; Danielle Miller, $1,000 from the Mar-Jac Poultry Scholarship Fund; Emily Wilson, $1,000 from the Northeast Georgia School Superintendent’s Scholarship Fund

The Teen Center at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County has recently been selected as a recipient of the Walmart Summer Food Program grant.

This grant will provide nutritious food, such as fresh fruits and vegetables or whole-grain crackers, to students at the facility.

The Georgia Mountain Food Bank is a partner in the grant program, and has assembled teams of community volunteers to help prepare the lunch bags. Groups from Eagle Ranch Homes, local churches, board members and other partner agencies with the Georgia Mountain Food Bank, totaling about 150 volunteers, are helping with this effort.

This partnership is an extension of the Georgia Mountain Food Bank’s outreach program, "Munch Bunch," which has been providing healthy after-school snacks for the youth since September 2009. About 300 kids and teens are served at the Boys and Girls Clubs each day during the school year. During July, this recent partnership provided a lunch for 250 children each weekday.

Widow’s Son Masonic Lodge recently awarded two prizes in its fundraising contest to build its lodge home.

Raymund Bailey, worshipful master of Widow’s Son Lodge No. 66, awarded a 40-inch flat-screen TV to Jill Franklin, the first-place prize, and a 12-by-12-foot tailgating tent to Robert Hale, the second-place prize.
