Samantha Simonton, 14, of Gainesville, took first place in skeet and second in sporting clays senior/JV girls division at the 2014 Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation National Championships in Sparta, Ill. It was her first year to shoot competitively. Simonton, a member of the Lake Oconee Shotgun Team, was among more than 2,500 shooters competing in the 2014 championships at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex in Sparta.
