Pinecrest Academy in Cumming has been selected as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, announced the U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.

Pinecrest is one of 287 public and 50 private schools to be honored with a recognition ceremony Nov. 10-11 in Washington, D.C., by the U.S. Department of Education. The schools were recognized because they achieve very high learning standards, or are making notable improvements in closing the achievement gap.

Diane Starkovich, superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Archdiocese of Atlanta, congratulated the staff, faculties, administrators, parents and students of the schools.

“This is the highest academic recognition that any school can receive and we are very proud of this accomplishment,” Starkovich said. “The award belongs to the entire community since it celebrates strong academic instruction by teachers and outstanding academic performance by the students.”
