Chestatee High School senior and equestrian rider Chelsea Cates competed in zone finals in the Hunt Seat category in the riding class of Varsity Open in Savannah and qualified for the national competition in Springfield, Mass.

Cates rides for the North Georgia team called Holly Valley Equestrian Team and competes in the Interscholastic Equestrian Association, which recognizes middle and high school riders all around the United States in three different types of riding, including hunt seat, saddle seat, and western for a team or an individual.

In the IEA contests, competitors do not ride their own horses. All riders draw a horse to ride in each class. In almost all cases, it is a horse they have never ridden before.
