Brenau BBQ contest awards winners

The Brenau Barbecue Competition with the Memphis Barbecue Network and Georgia Barbecue Association competitions drew 37 teams from five states in late May to the historic Brenau University campus in Gainesville.

Although the competition draws a number of participants from Gainesville and North Georgia, both grand champs and the reserve champ were from south of Atlanta. Winners were:

Rob Caron of Gainesville was the Almighty Smoke Masters cook team captain. The team’s salmon entry in the Anything But category won first place in a three-way tie and seventh place in the GBA Pulled Pork category.

Blake Adams of Gainesville was the Blaker’s BBQ cook team captain. This team participated in the GBA competition.

Weymon Forrester of Athens was the Butts & Brews cook team captain. This team participated in the GBA competition.

Lee Hemmer of Gainesville was the Hemhocks cook team captain. This team participated in the GBA competition.

Joel Reid of Gainesville was the J.Reid’s BBQ & Stew cook team captain. This team participated in the GBA competition.

Philip Wilheit of Oakwood was the John Jarrard’s Rhythm & Drool BBQ cook team captain. This team participated in the GBA competition.

Bear Sloan of Oakwood was the Lazy Bear Barbeque cook team captain. The team won sixth place in the MBN Shoulder and ninth place in the MBN Rib categories.

Dan Rabb of Gainesville was the Legally Smokin Docs cook team captain. The team’s gumbo entry in the Anything But category won first place in a three-way tie. The team also won eighth place in the MBN Shoulder and 10th place in the Rib categories.

Ted Townsend of Gainesville was the Natural Born Smokers cook team captain. The team won 11th place in the GBA Pulled Pork category.

Gary Moore of Oakwood was the Ninja Pig BBQ cook team captain. The team won second place in the GBA Pulled Pork category and 11th place in GBA Ribs.

Rick Shaw of Gainesville was the Rick’s Smokin’ Pig BBQ cook team captain. The team won fourth place in the GBA Pulled Pork category and eighth place in GBA Ribs.

Wes Hall of Gainesville was the Skyline Contracting cook team captain. The team won ninth place in the GBA Pulled Pork category.

Jeff Yarbrough of Gainesville was the Smokin’ Butts BBQ cook team captain. This team participated in the GBA competition.

Stanley Stephens of Gainesville was the Sweet Butts BBQ cook team captain. This team participated in the GBA competition.

Stan Kaminski of Gainesville was the Team Recess and Yellowfin cook team captain. This team participated in the GBA competition and won second place in the Bloody Mary contest.

Doug Shehan of Gainesville was the Tuff Dawg Grillers cook team captain. The team won sixth place in the GBA Ribs category, eighth place in the GBA Pulled Pork category and first place for Site Appearance.

Tyler Kempker of Gainesville was the Two Little Piggs cook team captain. The team won fifth place in the GBA Pulled Pork category and 12th place in the GBA Pork Loin category.

Rives Doss of Gainesville was the Wandering Woodies cook team captain. The team participated in the GBA competition.
