The Gainesville City School System will not hold in-person classes on Thursday, Oct. 29, as Hall County prepares strong winds and heavy rain expected from Hurricane Zeta. Class is still in session but will be hosted virtually, the school system says.

Board recognizes thespians triumph

Two Gainesville High School students were recognized by Gainesville City Schools Superintendent Wanda Creel and the Board of Education for their accomplishments on Feb. 5-7 at the Georgia Thespian Conference in Columbus.

Carlee Cosper was elected as one of seven state thespian officers, who will represent the 4,000-plus student thespians in Georgia. She will attend the International Thespian Conference this summer at the University of Nebraska.

Alaina Holeman was awarded the 2015 Pam Ware Leadership Scholarship of $2,000. She received audition callbacks from numerous colleges at the conference.
