Rene and Alina Rivero of West New York, N.J., announce the engagement of their daughter Michelle Rivero to John Roger Nott, son of Elizabeth and Roger Eliphalet Nott of Gainesville.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Orestes Barrios Gonzales and Garciela Rivero Paredes, both of Havana, the late Sulamif Barrios Mariasch and the late Thomas Rivero Marquez.

She is a 2003 graduate of High Tech High School in North Bergen, N. J. She graduated in 2007 from Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. She is employed as a research assistant with Building Systems Design Inc., of Atlanta.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Lois and Ira Ervin Shipp Jr. of Holly Springs, Miss., the late Elizabeth Cochran Shipp and the late Genevieve and John Cornish Nott.

He is a 2002 graduate of Gainesville High School in Gainesville. He graduated in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, where he was a member and president of Zeta Beta Tau fraternity. He is employed as a mechanical engineer with Griffith Engineering Inc., in Atlanta.

The couple plan to wed Nov. 15, 2008, at St. James United Methodist Church in Atlanta.
