Donna Crews Owen of Cornelia and Keith A. and Pam H. Owen of Mount Airy announce the engagement of their daughter Jennifer Erin Owen to Matthew Blake Shirley, son of Jake H. and Teresa H. Shirley of Cornelia.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Catherine Owen of Kosciusko, Miss., the late John Ralph Owen and the late Donald and Lonnis Crews.

She is a 1999 graduate of Habersham Central High School in Mount Airy. She graduated in 2003 from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology. She received a doctorate of physical therapy at North Georgia College & State University in Dahlonega. She is employed as a physical therapist at Tugaloo Home Health in Gainesville.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Alice Poole Harper of Baldwin, the late Henry "Nub" Harper, Louise Loudermilk Shirley of Hollywood and the late A.D. Shirley.

He is a 2002 graduate of Habersham Central High School in Mount Airy. He graduated in 2007 from Kennesaw State University with a bachelor’s degree in exercise and health science. He is employed as a special education teacher with the Gainesville City School System in Gainesville.

The couple plan to wed June 12, 2010, at Tiger Mountain Vineyards in Tiger.
