John and Elizabeth “Michelle” Mercer of Gainesville announce the engagement of their daughter Lyndsay D’Aubert Mercer to Nathan William Shope, son of Paula Shope of Gainesville and the late Phil Shope.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Jim and Libby Valentine of Dahlonega, Elizabeth MacKenzie of Merritt Island, Fla., and the late Paul Mercer.

She is a 2009 graduate of Gainesville High School in Gainesville. She graduated in 2013 from the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega with a bachelor of science degree in sociology with a minor in psychology. She is currently attending the University of Georgia in Athens.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Paul Jenkins of Monticello, Ky., and the late Christine Jenkins, and Franklin and Imogene Shope of Gainesville.

He is a 2008 graduate of Chestatee High School in Gainesville. He graduated in 2013 from the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega with a bachelor of science degree in sociology with a minor in Spanish. He is employed by the state of Georgia in Gainesville.

The couple plan to wed May 23, 2015, in Gainesville.
