Sonya G. Barrett of Gainesville announces the engagement of her daughter Elizabeth Jean Barrett to Louis Daniel Thompson, son of Lawrence A. Jr. and Suzanne Thompson of Savannah.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Jean and Jimmy Garrett of Gainesville, Dorothy C. Barrett of Panama City, Fla., and the late William Barrett.

She is a 1998 graduate of Gainesville High School in Gainesville. She graduated in 2002 from the University of Georgia in Athens with a bachelor's degree in arts and sciences. She received a master's degree at Piedmont College in Demorest in arts in education. She is employed as a teacher with Chatham County Schools in Savannah.

The groom-elect is a 1997 graduate of Jenkins High School in Savannah. He graduated in 2003 from the University of Georgia in Athens with a bachelor's degree in sports business. He is employed with Thompson Sports Shop in Savannah.

The couple plan to wed June 20, 2009, at Washington Square in Savannah.
