Donald and Lie Hwa Stowers of Gainesville celebrated their 50th anniversary on Aug. 31, 2008. A reception was held in their honor at McEver Road Baptist Church in Oakwood.

The couple met in Taiwan where Donald was stationed while serving in the U.S. Army. He came back to the states and worked until he saved enough money to return for his future wife Lie. They were wed in Taipei, Taiwan.

The couple have two children and four grandchildren.
