Coming home to a hot meal is something that many people take for granted, but the volunteers with My Sister's Place know that isn't a reality for many folks in Hall County.

To raise awareness and funds, the nonprofit shelter for homeless women and their children is preparing to hold its annual dinner and dance. The event will begin at 6 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Chattahoochee Country Club, 3000 Club Drive, Gainesville.

In addition to a catered meal, live music will be provided by Peggie Hoskins and Wayne Langford.

A silent auction will feature items that include a three-night stay at the King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort on St. Simons Island and a deluxe wine tasting for four at the Montaluce Winery in Dahlonega.

My Sister's Place has been serving homeless women and children since it was founded in 2000. Proceeds from next week's event will be used to help fund renovations on the group's newly acquired property on Martin Luther King Boulevard in Gainesville.

The new property will allow My Sister's Place provide shelter to more homeless women and children.
