The wings aren’t the only flavorful things at Suwanee’s August Concert & Wing Festival on Aug. 8.

Soul Asylum will serve up a tangy musical performance, especially if you grew up in late 1980s and early 1990s alternative rock/grunge era.

After forming in Minneapolis in 1981, Soul Asylum, known for two years as Loud Fast Rules, was a frontrunner of American college rock band. It garnered a reputation as the country’s best live band, which was cemented by “Runaway Train,” from its sixth album, Grave Dancers Union, in 1992. It was the band’s biggest hit, peaking at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. Other hits include “Somebody to Shove,” “Black Gold,” and “Misery.”

Now, 23 years later, , Soul Asylum is promoting a new studio album.com page. And the band members of Dave Pirner, Michael Bland, Winston Roye and Justin Sharbono will perform its old and new songs at 8:30 p.m. Aug. 8 to the crowd at Town Center Park, 330 Town Center Ave., Suwanee.

Before the headlining group takes the stage, attendees can hear three local bands as well as participate in a celebrity wing-eating contest and sample wings from nearly a dozen local restaurants.

The music starts at 5 p.m. with the 101 followed by Brent Daniel and The Athens Band. The wing-eating contest is at 7:45 p.m.

Free off-site parking and a shuttle service will be provided from Shawnee North Business Park, 305 Shawnee North Drive.
