Northwinds Symphonic Band annual holiday concert
When: 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3
Where: Banquet hall at First Baptist Church, 751 Green St. NW, Gainesville
North Georgia residents can celebrate “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” with the Northwinds Symphonic Band on Tuesday.
The free annual concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 3 in the banquet hall of the First Baptist Church in Gainesville.
Featured performers will be Gainesville Theater Alliance director Jim Hammond, soprano Michelle Martin and alto saxaphonist Brian Ulrich.
Northwinds principal conductor and music director Ron Evans promises a different event from the traditional band concert. Instead, the symphonic band will tell the start of the birth of Christ in music and spoken word.
The first half of the program will consist of scripture readings by Jim Hammond followed by music recounting the stories of Advent, the nativity and the rejoicing of Christ’s birth. The second half will feature the secular side of the season with music such as “White Christmas,” “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” and traditional audience favorite “The Night Before Christmas” poem read by Hammond.
