Based on children storyteller Hans Christian Andersen’s tale of an outcast foul, “My Life as a Fairy Tale: The Ugly Duckling” will jump off the pages of a book and onto the stage for the amusement of small children.

Open Eye Figure Theatre of Minneapolis, Minn., is presenting the famous tale “The Ugly Duckling” with a few new twists and turns. Using only a collection of found objects and odd furniture, this imaginative performance gives life to the inanimate as the Ugly Duckling makes his journey to finding a home. Along the way, the duckling encounters the hunter, the farmer, soaring geese and menacing cats and dogs.

Performance dates and times are 10 a.m. and noon Tuesdays through Fridays; 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturdays; and 1 and 3 p.m. Sundays. The show will run from May 26 to June 7 at the Center for Puppetry Arts at 1404 Spring St. NW in Atlanta.

Tickets cost $9.25  for members and $16.50 for nonmembers. Tickets include the performance and the Create-A-Puppet Workshop or To-Go Kit where visitors can make their own distinctive duckling rod puppet.
