Two Georgia-based writers will hold a reading of their fiction and poetry Tuesday at Piedmont College in Demorest.

The event, titled "Roving Scribblers," will feature Matt Forsythe of the University of Georgia and Piedmont English professor Dr. Siân Griffiths.

The reading, sponsored by the English Department, will be held at 4 p.m., in Jenkins Auditorium with a reception to follow. This event is free and open to the public.

Forsythe is currently finishing his doctoral work at UGA, where he has served as an editorial assistant to "The Georgia Review." His work blends humor with beautiful setting description and vivid characterization.

The son of an Air Force officer, Forsythe spent his childhood moving among various states and countries. He received his B.A. degree from Calvin College and his M.A. from the University of Tennessee. His fiction often examines the interplay between characters and the wilderness.

Griffiths lives in Athens, where she serves as assistant professor of English at Piedmont's Athens and Demorest campuses. Her work has been featured in a number of poetry publications including "Quarterly West," "Ninth Letter," "Cave Wall," and "The Georgia Review."

Her story "What Is Solid" was nominated for a Pushcart Prize and Janet Burroway included her poem, "Fistful," in the third edition of "Imaginative Writing."

Griffiths is currently working on her debut novel, "Borrowed Horses." Like Forsythe, Griffiths spent her childhood moving from one part of the world to another, and she is deeply interested in the effect of place on character.
