The Holly Theater is getting the new year off to a rocking start.

The Dahlonega-based theater’s 2017 concert series is packed with tributes to legends and blasts from the past.

“We really tried to put in something for everyone,” said Holly Theater board member Chris Andrus, who coordinated the concert series. “We looked for broad appeal. It’s a combination of heavy brass bands with old favorites.”

This year the series includes Holly Theater regulars The Return, a Beatles tribute band, and bluegrass rockers Banks & Shane. Andrus said he is excited to bring in some new acts, such as “A Van Morrison Tribute” and The River City Boys in a salute to the Statler Brothers farewell concert.

“These are artists that cut across typical lines,” he said. “We think of the Statler Brothers as typically country-western, but they had a lot of Top 40 hits. We want to appeal to the widest variety of people we can, so we’re looking for acts that had brilliant careers.”

The first show of the season is A1A, “The Official and Original Jimmy Buffett Tribute Show,” featuring pirates and a seven-piece Buffett tribute band. Corkscrew Cafe, at  51 W. Main St. in Dahlonega, will host a tailgate party before the show to get Parrotheads ready to rock.

Tickets to the Corkscrew Cafe tailgate are $5.

“It’s going to be a very fun evening,” Andrus said. “If it’s anywhere near as successful as we hope it’s going to be, we’d like to add A1A to our stable of bands that come back every year.”

All shows will be at The Holly Theater, 69 W. Main St., Dahlonega. Tickets are available through hollytheater.com or by calling 706-864-3759.
