As the surrounding woods call to outdoorsmen and women, area nature guides will answer with monthly Smithgall Second Saturday Hike.

Hikers may explore the captivating scenery of Smithgall Woods in Helen under the supervision of a guide every second Saturday of the month, weather permitting. The next hike will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 11, at 61 Tsalaki Trail, Helen.

Parking fee is $5.

Throughout the year, hikes will rotate through the various trails as varying guides share information on topics such as local history, geology, biology, plant taxonomy and Native American life and culture.

The hiking trails vary in difficulty, length and duration. Determination of the trail will be made based on guide availability, weather and special events.

All are welcome. Guided tours are restricted to 12 persons.
