Aspiring artists may throw clay or design their personal journals through two classes with the Helen Arts & Heritage Council.

The three-hour pottery workshop will be from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, in the clay studio at 25 Chattahoochee Strasse in Helen.

The class costs $30. Free parking in the rear area of the center.

St. Simons Island potter Debbie Craig will explore several techniques with textures in clay with students. Project possibilities will be creating tumblers, woven bowls, basket forms and trays.

Participants are asked to bring their own clay and pottery tools. Clay may be purchased from the studio if needed.

The class for making a personal handmade journal will be from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the arts center.

The fee is $45 and all materials will be provided.

Craig also will teach the class.

Students are encouraged to bring photos and other items to further personalize their individual journal.
