The Holly Theater in Dahlonega gives a lot to the community with various theatrical and musical performances throughout the year. Now is the time of year when the community can give back to the beloved landmark with the "Have a Holly Holiday" fundraiser for the Holly Endowment.

Don't expect a boring old black tie affair, though. Geoffrey Kridel, executive director of the Holly Theater, said it will be more like a Christmas show with some extras.

The Holly Endowment Fundraiser benefits the endowment for the Holly Theater, which Kridel said allows the theater to continue its special operations.

"As is the case with a lot of colleges and universities, the goal is to build an endowment or ‘trust,' if you will, that will continue to support over the years. We want to build funds to support the theater's growth by both sponsorship and normal events," Kridel said.

Entertainment for the night will include a review of season highlights from the 2011 Holly Theater performances. Performances will include "O' Henry Christmas Classic," and one act of "Gift Of The Magi."

Additionally, musical numbers from "Pump Boys and Dinettes" and "Babes in Toyland" will be performed. A rousing chorus of Christmas carols is also planned. The Holly Performance Academy will also present a sneak peak of its upcoming performance with songs from "Willy Wonka."

"We want it to be more like a Christmas show. People can expect a festive event," Kridel said.

The fundraising event is set for 7 p.m. Friday at the Dahlonega Market Place, located at 100 Public Square North in downtown Dahlonega.
