Gainesville State College’s annual "Big Band Show" is set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday in GSC’s Ed Cabell Theatre. This year’s event will feature the talents of GSC’s jazz band/jazz combo under the direction of Andrew Santander, chairman of Visual and Performing Arts and professor of music. The chorale will be directed by Bruce Sellers, instructor of music and acting director of choral/vocal studies. Joanna Kim Doyle, assistant professor of music, director of keyboard studies, will accompany the chorale. The jazz band will be performing a varied program of selections from old favorites like "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" to more modern favorites by Freddie Hubbard, Charles Mingus and Alan Baylock. From swing and Latin to fusion and funk, this show has a bit of everything for everyone. The chorale will surprise and delight the audience with a program entitled "The Lullaby of Broadway." "We’ll be doing some jazzy arrangements of some popular Broadway standards written by some of the great names associated with the Broadway stage," said Sellers. All seats are reserved. Tickets are $14.25 for adults, $8.25 for Gainesville Theatre Alliance subscribers, and $10.25 for children, seniors, groups and non-GSC students. Admission is free for GSC faculty, staff and students with ID. Purchase tickets online at www.gsc.edu or call 678-717-3624.
