"Louder Than a Bomb," the second of six films in the Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers series, will screen at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Gainesville State College.

The screening will be followed by a reception with the filmmakers.

The film by Jon Siskel and Greg Jacobs focuses on an annual "poetry slam" competition called "Louder Than a Bomb" that involves some 600 students from more than 60 Chicago-area schools. It chronicles the stories of four teams as they prepare for and compete in the 2008 event.

The film captures the tempestuous lives of talented teenagers from inner-city neighborhoods obsessed with making words dance through
their poetry.

How and why they do it—and the community they create along the way—is the story at the heart of this inspiring film.

The series brings six award-winning independent films and their filmmakers into Hall County over the next several months. Trailers for each film in the series may be viewed at the Arts Council’s website, www.theartscouncil.net.
