The Georgia Mountain Players have found a fitting production to bring to the stage for their spring production.

With the April 15 tax deadline right around the corner, the group thought it only fitting to perform Pat Cook's "Death and Taxes."

"I got a new catalog and was going through it, looking for something suitable for us to do," said Mike Martin, the group's managing and artistic director.

"We only do family plays and this just sounded like a really cute one."

But don't be fooled by the serious title; "Death and Taxes" is a light-hearted production suitable for all audiences, Martin says.

Under the direction of Linda Smith, the player's production will debut April 7 at the Georgia Mountains Center, 301 Main St., Gainesville. Performances will run through April 16.

The show takes place in a small town, where the discovery of a dead body turns a town council meeting into a coroner's jury as the characters try to piece together the who, what and how.

"It's a murder mystery, but it is very, very funny," Martin said.

Although there will only be the seven performances of "Death and Taxes," the players have other productions lined up as well.

"Every year, we do four, different shows," Martin said. "And every other year we do a bonus show."

This year's bonus will be a June production of "Always Patsy Cline."

"We've done ‘Always Patsy' a couple of times, in 1999 and in 2002. But this will be our last time doing it because our Patsy Cline is retiring," Martin said.

Tickets for "Death and Taxes" are $16 for adults, $12 for seniors, students and children. They are on sale at the Mountains Center box office or by calling 770-534-8420.
