The Believers Community Concert Band’s 10th Anniversary Spring Concert, “Thanks For The Memories” scheduled for Sunday, April 22, will kick off the band’s 11th season of music for the community with a very special celebration at Pearce Auditorium on the Brenau University Campus.
The concert will feature a decade of milestones and musical highlights.
Over the years, one of the band’s distinguishing features is its programming, which combines popular and light classical music to appeal to the musical interests of a wide audience.
The band has performed an enormous collection of favorite marches, light classical selections, Broadway show tunes and religious music. Like Arthur Fiedler used to say, “We play all kinds of music, except the boring kind.”
The Believers Concert Band started with simple objectives, “Using music as a vehicle to have fun, refresh the spirits of the players, refresh the spirits of the listeners, give to the community and enjoy Christian fellowship.” These objectives are still guiding the band today.
“Without the vision of Dr. Lee Martin and the support of the GFUMC leadership and staff, the dedication of the band members themselves and a lot of encouragement from the Lord, we could not have accomplished what we have,” said director Richard Petty.
In the early days, the band’s goal was a simple one, “Start and stop together.” The Believers Concert Band has become a well respected musical ensemble that contributes to the community.
