A group of local musicians will strike up the band this weekend to pay tribute to veterans everywhere.

At 3 p.m. Sunday, The Believers Concert Band will hold its "Can Do - Will Do" Veterans Concert at Gainesville First United Methodist Church.

The Believers band is a community band formed at Gainesville First United Methodist in 2002 by Lee Martin Sr. and conductor Richard L. Petty.

The group has grown from five to 50 members. It includes a variety of woodwind and brass instruments such as french horns, trumpets, flutes and saxophones.

The Believers' goal is to use music as a vehicle to have fun, enjoy Christian fellowship and to "refresh the spirits of the listeners."

The band blends popular music with light classical tunes to create performances that appeal to a large audience.

The concert is free and will be held in the sanctuary of the church at 2780 Thompson Bridge Road, Gainesville.
