Tricking and treating doesn’t have to stop when you’re too old to fit into a child-size costume.

From 6-11 p.m. Oct. 22 in downtown Gainesville, all ghouls and goblins 18 years old and older are invited to don their preferred costumes for the Adult Halloween Party on the Square.

“Our Adult Prom went so well, we wanted to do something for Halloween,” Downtown Drafts co-owner Aimee Hoecker said. “People had so much fun at the prom.”

Downtown Drafts and MainStreet Gainesville are hosting the follow-up event. Tickets are $22 at www.grownupgainesville.com.

During the Halloween party, special beers will on sale with a few from Southern Tier brewery of New York and Victory Brewery of Pennsylvania. Warlock, a stout, and Pumking, a pumpkin ale, are two of the specialties available from Victory Brewery.

A large tent will be erected in the southeast parking lot of the square in front of the parking garage for the night. Hoecker said more attendees are expected than at the adult prom, so they will have a bigger tent to accommodate everyone.

Downtown Drafts co-owner Nick Hoecker said they are bringing in a black light and a fog machine powerful enough to fill an entire football stadium.

At the end of the night, a costume competition will be held. Prizes will be awarded for best overall costume, scariest costume and best group costume. One prize will be a free airplane flight lesson.

Restaurants and shops around the square will have special discounts for the night.

“It will be an open container event,” Aimee said.

Everyone who attends the Halloween party will go home with a goodie bag, complete with items from local shops such as coozies, glow-in-the-dark cups and other souvenirs.

A DJ will be on site playing tunes to match the Halloween theme. And a photo booth bus will have unlimited photos for free.

The square’s normal parking areas, including the parking deck, will be open with the exception of the side parking lot.
