Post Parade, Woody from Toy Story
With movie-like magic, Woody from the "Toy Story" big screen series cracked his whip at Saturday's official Christmas tree lighting in Braselton, and the huge, decorated tree was luminated.
The second weekend of events of the Cowboy Christmas in Braselton was highlighted with Woody making a special appearance. He returns this Saturday as grand marshal for the 2 p.m. parade.
During last weekend's event, sounds of the holidays filled the air as the handbell choir of Galilee Christian Church, directed by Don Brandon, entertained with seasonal selections.
The New Liberty Methodist Church Choir sang holiday music and Dawn DeWitt was joined by her 3-year-old daughter, Delaney, in singing "Christmas Shoes."
A Cowboy Christmas in Braselton kicked off Nov. 6 with a special concert and street dance featuring the Kinchafoonee Cowboys.
The Rotary Club of Braselton and the Braselton Visitor's Bureau Association sponsored the tree-lighting event.
Volunteers with Relay for Life of Braselton-Hoschton were on hand to sell luminaries for a ceremony held in conjunction with the tree-lighting celebration. Luminaries were placed in memory of those who had lost their battle with cancer, while others celebrated survivors.
The movie "A Christmas Story" was shown in Braselton Park afterward.
This weekend's activities include the Celebrate the Holidays in Braselton festival from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in Braselton Park. The parade starts at 2 p.m., and will travel down Ga. 53 and feature the Jackson County Comprehensive High School marching band.
The Vineyard Run for Hope at Chateau Elan, a race to benefit the Gwinnett Children's Shelter, will start Saturday's activities. Racers will take on a and three-mile course at 8 a.m. and a six-mile course at 9 a.m., with a tot trot at 7:30 a.m. at the Chateau Elan Winery. For more information, visit www.vineyardrunforhope.com.
Chateau Elan will hold its annual Lighting of the Chateau from 2-6 p.m. on Nov. 26 on the Winery Lawn. Holiday arts and crafts, giant bouncy inflatables, a visit from Santa Claus, wine tours, magic and storytelling are included. The lighting of the Chateau and fireworks come at dusk.
