Around the Home: Free program offers summer snack inspiration

Summer will be here before you know it.

If you’re coordinating a vacation Bible school or summer camp, be sure to take advantage of the University of Georgia Extension expanded food and nutrition education program.

Youngsters and parents, too, can learn about healthy snacks and more through the free program.

“Peach Crumble” and “Fruity Parfait” are two of the favorite recipes among program participants. They include yogurt, which is a tasty treat any time of the year.

Lanier Career Academy students recently participated in the program. They enjoyed recipes such as skillet spaghetti and chicken divan.

The free program is a great opportunity to help children build their knowledge of nutrition and confidence for meal preparation and planning.

I’m looking forward to visiting your youth groups. By the way, youth and adult programs are available throughout the year.

There’s no doubt that during this time of year Northeast Georgia is filled with a good helping of seasonal events.

If you plan to take a picnic lunch or even snacks, be sure to check for safety tips. And make sure you check The Times’ Get Out section for information on area events and festivals.
