With the high school basketball season in the books, it’s time again for the spring sports to take center stage.

Leading the week will be the 25th annual Hall County Golf Championships, which will take place today and Tuesday at the Royal Lakes Country Club in Flowery Branch.

Last year, both the Gainesville boys and girls took home the title. The boys will be looking for their 18th win in school history. The girls have won every year but 2007, and will look to continue the strong tradition.

Also competing will be West Hall, North Hall, Flowery Branch, Johnson, Lakeview Academy and Chestatee. Riverside Military and East Hall will compete in the boys competition.

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Gainesville, which is off to a hot start to the season, plays three games this week: today at Walnut Grove, Wednesday at home against Johnson and Friday at home against Chestatee. Johnson (3-2) won a 2-1 matchup over West Hall last Wednesday behind a complete-game effort on the mound from A.J. Benefield.

Elsewhere in Hall County, Chestatee will play at North Hall today.

HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER: The Gainesville boys and girls will play Tuesday at West Hall and Friday against Franklin County. Both teams have started well this year, the boys having shut out their past four opponents.

The Flowery Branch girls host Madison County on Tuesday and travel to Loganville on Friday. The Lady Falcons (9-0) have given up just one goal all season.

ATLANTA HAWKS: After back-to-back losses against Miami and Detroit, the Hawks will endure a full slate of games this week. They will play three games in four days, two of which will come on the road (at Denver and the Los Angeles Clippers). They will host the Wizards on Friday to close out the week.
