Lanier Running Club fares well at regionals

The Lanier Running Club had four runner place at the Region 3 USA Track & Field Junior Olympics in Landover, Md., on Sunday. The Lanier Running Club also had two of the runners qualify for the Junior Olympic National Championships on July 28-August 2 in Greensboro, N.C.

Erika Rucker led the Lanier Running Club with a first place in the 200 meter (24.63 seconds) and second in the 400 (56.97), both of which are qualifying times for the nationals. "Erika had two tremendous races in the finals," Lanier Running Club coach Charlie Patterson said.

North Hall High junior Ty McCormack ran personal best times in both the 1,500 (4:11.12, fourth place) and 5,000 (16:01, fifth place). McCormack also ran the 2,000 steelplechase for the first time and managed to finish third overall. McCormack was a state champion this season in the 3,200 at the track & field state meet for North Hall.

Chestatee High’s Kelsey Neukum ran a pair of personal best times in the intermediate girls division with a time of 11:26.92 in the 3,000 and a 5:27.31 in the 1,5000. Kenny Slavik competed in the 3,000 with a fifth place time of 9:50.3, and in the 1,5000 (4:44.19) in the intermediate boys division.
