Day one of the 2018 ICF Dragon Boat World Championships was a big one for Team USA's junior team, every member of which is also a part of Gainesville's Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club.

The junior team swept golds both in the 10-seater junior men's 500 meter race and the 10-seater junior mixed 500m, winning all four junior races held on the day.

The senior teams also saw some success, particularly in the grand final of the 10-seater senior mixed 500, where Team USA finished third with a 2:11.876 mark, barely half a second behind the second-place Hungarian team. The Philippines won gold.

The Americans finished the day up with a pair of fourth-placed finishes in the 10-seater master 40 and over men’s 500 and the 20-seater senior mixed 500 and a sixth place result in the 10-seater master 40 and over mixed 500. Teams from the Czech Republic, the Philippines and Germany took first place in those grand finals.
