Since a loss to Gainesville in the Lanierland tournament, the West Hall boys basketball team has been almost unstoppable.

The Spartans (13-3, 4-0 Region 8B-AAA) moved up another two spots this week to No. 5 in the Class AAA poll released by ga.prepcountry.com on Wednesday. West Hall has now reeled off six consecutive wins, including a 77-57 win against Gainesville in a rematch on Jan. 4 in Oakwood. If weather permits, the Spartans will visit Gainesville at 8:30 on Friday.

In Class AA, East Hall (8-4) dropped two spots to No. 7 in Class AA, even though the Vikings have not played since a 69-47 win against Flowery Branch on Jan. 4.

East Hall is scheduled to open Region 8-AA play with a game against Banks County at 8:30 p.m. Friday in Gainesville. Also in Region 8-AA, Union County (10-0) dropped one spot this week to No. 8 in Class AA. The Panthers’ last outing was a 58-47 win against Murphy (N.C.) to win the Battle of the States Tournament on Dec. 29 in Hiawassee.

Buford (8-3, 3-1 Region 6-AA) kept its hold on the No. 10 spot from last week. Last week, the Wolves dropped an overtime game against No. 3-ranked Greater Atlanta Christian, 60-54.

In the girls poll, the Lady Wolves (10-1, 3-0 Region 6-AA) remain steady at No. 2 behind top-ranked Kendrick. Last Saturday, Buford defeated 10th-ranked Greater Atlanta Christian 58-42 in Buford. After Tuesday’s homecoming game against Cross Keys was postponed, the Lady Wolves are slated to face Oak Hill Academy at 5 p.m. Saturday at Wesleyan.

In Class AAA, Chestatee remained No. 8 after wins against Pickens and North Hall in subregion play last week. The Lady War Eagles (12-2, 1-0 Region 8A-AAA) are scheduled to visit Franklin County at 7 p.m. on Friday in Carnesville.

In Class A, Towns County (13-1, 3-0 Region 8-A) jumped into the poll at No. 10 following blowout wins against Commerce and Hebron Christian last week. The Lady Indians resume play with a home game against Athens Christian at 7 p.m. on Friday in Hiawassee, followed by a trip to Watkinsville to face Athens Academy on Saturday.
