In The Associated Press High School Football Poll released Tuesday, Gainesville is the unanimous No. 1 team in Class AAA, moving up from the No. 2 position it held up until now.
According to the Georgia High School Football Association, this the first time the Red Elephants have been ranked No. 1 since 1983. That year, Gainesville went 13-1, ending its season in the semifinals.
The Red Elephants are off to a 3-0 start this year, outscoring opponents by a combined total of 117-20. They took over the No. 1 spot after previous No. 1 Carver-Columbus fell, 21-12, last weekend to Northside-Warner Robins.
Gainesville will play host to North Hall at 7:30 p.m. Friday at City Park.
Tickets are on sale all week at the Gainesville High front office from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
