Prep scoreboard: Falcons one game away from region title

The Flowery Branch High baseball team moved one game closer to a region title with a 8-5 win against North Hall on Wednesday at Jody Davis Field.

Cody Ackerman picked up the win for the Falcons (23-2, 19-2 Region 7-AAA), pitching a complete game.

Greg Palmer was 3-for-4, Danny Price was 2-for-3, Patrick Henry homered and Bucky Free had a double and an RBI for Flowery Branch.

Jackson Coker was 3-for-4, Josh Haymore was 2-for-4 and K.J. McAllister hit a two-run home run for the Trojans (16-9, 13-8).

Flowery Branch finishes its regular season at home against Lumpkin County at 5:30 p.m. Friday. North Hall visits West Forsyth at 5:30 p.m. today.

White County 4, West Forsyth 2

Casey Jones was 3-for-4 with two runs and Josh Ingram was 2-for-3 with three RBIs for the Warriors on Wednesday in Cleveland.

Brantley earned his fifth win of the season for White County (14-11, 12-9 Region 7-AAA), pitching a complete game and striking out five.

White County wraps up their regular season when it visits West Hall at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Lumpkin County 12, Johnson 2

James Davis was 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and three RBIs while picking up the win on the mound for the Indians on Wednesday in Dahlonega.

Sunny Pham was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs for Lumpkin County (12-12, 10-11 Region 7-AAA). Chad Fulton, Parker Jarrard, Graham Lytch and Devin Dunson each hit two hits for the Indians.

Lumpkin County visits Flowery Branch at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Johnson (8-17, 5-16) plays host to Chestatee at 4 p.m. Saturday.

East Hall 3, West Hall 1

Jimmy Byers, Drew Adams, Ken Wise, Wesley Johns and Cody Each had a hit for the Vikings on Wednesday at East Hall Park.

Zeb Miller picked up the win for the Vikings (10-15, 9-12 Region 7-AAA), allowing one earned run in 6 2/3 innings.

Luis Delgado led the Spartans (7-18, 6-15) at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a run.

East Hall visits Gilmer at 5:30 p.m. Friday. West Hall plays host to White County at 5:30 p.m. Friday.


Buford girls 2, Calhoun 1

Maria Petroni and Elizabeth Darden each scored and Haley Holderfield had an assist for the Lady Wolves in their second round win against Calhoun in the Class A/AA state tournament Wednesday in Calhoun.

Rachael earned the win in goal for Buford (15-3-1) with four saves.

Buford visits Brookstone on Saturday in the state tournament semifinals.
