Prep scoreboard: Bennett leads Gainesville past East Hall

Gainesville High senior Zach Bennett got a complete-game win striking out 10 batters while only allowing three hits in the Red Elephants’ 10-1 win against East Hall on Wednesday at East Hall Park.
Bennett also led his team at the plate going 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Robby Hefflinger and Blaine Martin each had two hits and two RBIs for Gainesville (17-5, 16-2 Region 7-AAA). Sloan Strickland added to the Red Elephants’ offense with a solo home run.

Gainesville plays host to White County at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Ivey-Watson Field. East Hall (7-15, 6-12) plays host to West Forsyth at 5:30 p.m. Friday at East Hall Park.

White County 14, Chestatee 1

C.J. McDonald led the Warriors at the plate with a home run, two runs and three RBIs on Wednesday in Cleveland.

Kevin Frederick, Bart Westmoreland, Travis Rutkiewicz and Casey Jones each had two hits for White County (13-9, 11-7 Region 7-AAA).

David Sosebee, a freshman, picked up his fifth win of the season on the mound for the Warriors.

White County visits Gainesville at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Chestatee (3-16, 2-15) plays host to West Hall at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Flowery Branch 12, Pickens 10

Patrick Henry was 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and Brad Stone had three hits for the Falcons on Wednesday in Jasper.

Cody Ackerman picked up the win for the Flowery Branch (20-2, 16-2 Region 7-AAA) and pitched a perfect game over four innings. Matt Pilgrim earned the save in relief for the Falcons, keeping Pickens’ go-ahead run from scoring in the seventh inning.

Flowery Branch plays host to Johnson at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

West Forsyth 10, Johnson 5

Michael Lorentz and Jared Stone each had three hits and Will Rowlett tripled and had two RBIs for the Knights in their loss to West Forsyth on Wednesday in Cumming.

Bobby Wirsing pitched a complete game for Johnson (8-14, 5-13 Region 7-AAA) in the loss.

Johnson visit Flowery Branch at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

TENNIS

Blessed Trinity boys 4, West Hall 0


The Spartans were defeated by Blessed Trinity in the first round of the Class AAA State Tournament on Wednesday in Roswell.

The Titans took an early lead with singles wins against West Hall’s (14-6) Alan Clark and Luis Flores.

Blessed Trinity completed the sweep with two wins in doubles over Derek Weatherly/Jimmy Kincaid and Ricky Vital/Kyle Weatherly.

West Hall’s season is now complete.
