Prep roundup: Falcons wrap up subregion's top spot

A.C. Bailey led the Falcons (19-3, 8-0 Region 7B-AAA) with 12 points and eight rebounds en route to a 57-46 win over West Forsyth on Friday in Flowery Branch. With the win the Falcons clinch the subregion title and No. 1 seed for the Region 7-AAA tournament. Ishmael Hollis added 11 points for Flowery Branch.

Flowery Branch secured the win by outscoring the Wolverines 18-11 in the fourth quarter.

Flowery Branch plays host to Gainesville at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night.

Gainesville girls 63, Johnson 51
The Gainesville High girls kept rolling Friday night in Oakwood. The Lady Red Elephants (18-5, 8-0 Region 7B-AAA), who have already secured the subregion championship, have won nine of their last 11.

Jaymee Carnes, a sophomore, led Gainesville with 14 points and eight rebounds. Madison Strickland scored 12 for the Lady Red Elephants.

"I’m really excited about how our team is playing," Gainesville coach Manson Hill said. "We’re one of the teams that a chance to do some really good things this season."

Gainesville prevailed thanks to a strong second quarter, outscoring the Lady Knights 16-10, and extended the lead to 45-32 by the end of the third quarter.

Jordan Gustavel led the Lady Knights with a game-high 19 points and Shekeria Cooper added 13.

Johnson visits Loganville at 6 p.m. tonight. Gainesville visits Flowery Branch at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Riverside Military 72, Greater Gwinnett Christian 65
Joseph Lister and Charlie Riley tied for a team-high 17 points to lead the Eagles (7-10, 3-5 GISA Region 1-AAA) Friday night in Gainesville. Steven Frady added 16 points for Riverside Military.

The Eagles surged to victory by outscoring Greater Gwinnett Christian 29-8 in the second quarter.

Riverside Military plays host to George Walton Academy at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Pickens girls 46, West Hall 29
Jayla Moon led the Spartans with a team-high 13 points Friday night in Jasper. Kim Smigelsky added six points for the Lady Spartans (9-11, 3-5 Region 7B-AAA).

West Hall visits Stephens County at 6 tonight in Toccoa.

West Hall boys 57, Pickens 41
Terrell Penland led the Spartans (11-9, 5-3 Region 7B-AAA) with 15 points and Marquise Stephens added 12 Friday night in Jasper. The Spartans found their way to victory thanks to a big fourth quarter, outscoring the Dragons 25-10.

West Hall visits Stephens County at 7:30 tonight in Toccoa.

Chestatee boys 66, White County 64
Parker Smith scored a game-high 30 points to lead the War Eagles (18-5, 6-2 Region 7A-AAA) Friday night in Cleveland. Branden Jovaag scored 15 for Chestatee and Lamar Brooks scored nine.

Chestatee used a big fourth quarter, when the War Eagles outscored White County 23-11, to rally for the win.

Tyler Norman led the Warriors with 25 points.

Flowery Branch girls 44, West Forsyth 40
Jessica Hart paced the Lady Falcons (9-12, 3-4 Region 7B-AAA) with 12 points and Taylor Smith added eight points Friday night in Flowery Branch.

Flowery Branch plays host to Gainesville at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Buford girls 63, Decatur 29
Blanche Alverson scored a game-high 19 points to lead the No. 6-ranked Lady Wolves (18-4, 11-3 Region 6-AA) Friday night in Decatur. Shereese Williams scored 13 for Buford.

Buford took control of the game early with a 20-6 lead after the first quarter and extended the lead to 35-11 at halftime.

Buford plays host to North Hall at 4 p.m. today.

Lumpkin County boys 57, Gilmer 32
Shawn Chapman scored a game-high 29 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead the Indians (4-18, 2-9 Region 7-AAA) Friday night in Dahlonega. Chapman had four dunks on the night, with three coming on assists from E.J. Young.

Lumpkin County plays host to Lakeview Academy at 6 p.m. tonight in Dahlonega.

Towns County girls 67, Jefferson 59
Kris Reynolds led the Lady Dragons (11-10, 4-3 Region 8-A) with 14 points and Callie Holloway added 12 Friday night in Jefferson. Brittney Crews added 11 for the Lady Dragons. Jefferson plays host to Athens Academy at 6 p.m. tonight.

Jefferson boys 69, Towns County 26
Chris Beck scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Dragons (10-11, 5-2 Region 8N-A) Friday night in Jefferson. Chase Harris and Ronnie Lewis each added 10 points for Jefferson. Jefferson outscored Towns County 20-7 in the first quarter and extended its lead to 45-16 at halftime.

Jefferson plays host to Athens Academy at 7:30 tonight.

Dawson County boys 56, Union County 49
Zach Cook scored a game-high 22 points and Robert O’Quinn added 11 to lead the Tigers Friday night in Dawsonville. The Tigers (17-7, 7-2 Region 8N-AA) took control of the game by outscoring the Panthers 20-5 in the third quarter.

Dawson County plays host to West Forsyth at 7:30 tonight.

Dawson County girls 38, Union County 35
Katie Lebel led the Lady Tigers (11-11, 4-4) with 15 points en route to a win over the No. 10-ranked Lady Panthers Friday night in Dawsonville. Dawson County outscored Union County 20-5 in the second quarter and took a 27-16 lead into halftime.

Dawson County plays host to West Forsyth at 6 tonight.
