Prep roundup: Carnes leads Red Elephants' rally

The Gainesville High girls basketball team rebounded from a 28-16 halftime deficit Tuesday night, scoring 31-fourth quarter points en route to a 59-54 win against Pickens in Jasper.

Sophomore forward Jaymee Carnes led the fifth-ranked Lady Red Elephants’ (11-3, 1-0 Region 7B-AAA), scoring 16 of the Lady Red Elephants’ 31 fourth quarter points, including a 12-of-14 night from the free throw line. Carnes finished the game with 22 points, 13 rebounds and five blocked shots.

Gainesville coach Manson Hill said the Lady Red Elephants utilized a "scrappy full-court man-to-man defense" to create 20 Lady Dragon turnovers.

Gainesville guard Kiana Glasper added 15 points and five steals.

The Lady Red Elephants play host to West Hall at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Lakeview Academy girls 56,
Commerce 31

Sophomores Louisa Jacobs and Maddie Haymore each scored 13 points, pacing the Lady Lions to a victory Tuesday night in Gainesville.

Lakeview’s Megan Rochester and Brooke Windle each finished with 10, as the Lady Lions (4-5, 4-0 Region 8-A) held Commerce to single digits in each of the final three quarters.

Senior point guard Brittany Sewell led the Lady Tigers with nine points.

Lakeview plays host to Towns County at 7 p.m. Friday. Commerce plays host to Jefferson at 7 p.m. Friday.

Lakeview Academy boys 85,
Commerce 52

Lakeview Academy junior Tyler Ward scored 18 points as the Lions built on a 43-28 halftime lead, outscoring the Tigers 42-24 in the second half. Colin King and David Pruett added 14 points each for Lakeview (7-7).

Brandon Romans led Commerce with 10 points.

Lakeview Academy plays host to Towns County at 8:30 p.m.

GAC girls 60, Buford 51

Brianna Jordan led Greater Atlanta Christian with 20 points, snapping Buford’s 10-game winning streak Tuesday night in Norcross.

Blanche Alverson and Jocelyn Danley each scored 16 points for the Lady Wolves (11-2, 5-1 Region 6-AA).

Buford plays host to Avondale at 7 p.m. Friday.

GAC boys 55, Buford 50

The Wolves rallied from a 26-9 deficit to within 53-50 with only seconds left to play, but a turnover with 16 seconds left sealed the win for the Spartans on Tuesday night in Norcross.

Buford senior Melvin Harris scored a team-high 17.

Jakar Bridges added 11 points for Buford (6-6, 0-1 Region 6-AA).

Buford plays host to Avondale at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Chestatee girls 58,
Lumpkin County 50

Freshman forward Peyton Robertson led Chestatee with 17 points and 10 rebounds Tuesday night in Dahlonega. Senior guard Kasey Smith added 12 points for Chestatee (6-9, 1-0 Region 7A-AAA).

Chestatee visits North Hall at 7 p.m. Friday.

Chestatee boys 67,
Lumpkin County 58

Tennessee State signee Parker Smith scored at least 30 points for the eighth consecutive game, leading the War Eagles with 30 points Friday night in Dahlonega. Chestatee (13-3, 1-0 Region 7A-AAA) senior guard Brandon Jovaag added 21 points.

Shawn Chapman and E.J. Young each scored 15 points to lead the Indians (6-9, 0-1 Region 7A-AAA).

Chestatee visits North Hall at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

East Hall boys 76,Gilmer 47

East Hall point guard Dedric Ware scored 14 points Tuesday night in Valhalla, as four Vikings (10-4, 1-0 Region 7A-AAA) scored in double digits.

Kiante Young finished with 13 points, while Ken Wise and Dustin Duckworth each finished with 11.

East Hall entertains Lumpkin County at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

North Hall girls 57,
White County 48

Senior point guard Elizabeth Williams led North Hall with 17 points, 11 assists, six steals and six rebounds Tuesday night in Cleveland. Senior forward Letiecia Davenport added 17 points for the Lady Trojans (10-4, 1-0 Region 7A-AAA).

Bradee Burrell anchored the Lady Trojans’ defense, recording four steals and six rebounds. She also had eight points.

White County’s (5-9, 0-1 Region 7A-AAA) Amanda Watkins led all scorers with a game-high 24 points.

North Hall plays host to Chestatee at 7 p.m. Friday. White County entertains to Gilmer at 7 p.m. Friday.

North Hall boys 75,
White County 63

Drew Hill, a senior guard, led North Hall with 13 points as the Trojans (9-4, 1-0 Region 7A-AAA) held a lead in all four quarters Tuesday night in Cleveland.

The Trojans took control of the game early with a 27-17 lead after the opening quarter.

North Hall’s Robert Humphrey finished with 12 points and Robby Hill added 11.

White County senior guard Tyler Norman led all scorers with a game-high 30 points.

North Hall plays host to Chestatee at 8:30 p.m. Friday. White County plays host to Gilmer at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

North Cobb Christian 68,
Riverside Military Academy 44

University of Georgia signee Dustin Ware scored 18 points to pace North Cobb Christian past Riverside on Tuesday night in Gainesville.

Senior guard Charlie Riley led the Eagles (2-6) with 17 points, while senior Joseph Lister added 10.

Riverside Military visits George Walton Academy at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Monroe.
