Lumpkin County High named David Dowse on Friday as its new head girls basketball coach.

Before taking the job at Lumpkin County, Dowse coached for 11 years at McIntosh High.

Before Dowse coached at McIntosh, he was the head coach of the Grayson High girls basketball program. In his 14 year career, his record is 241-142.

Dowse has led two teams to region runner-up finishes and has made nine state playoff appearances.

“We are ecstatic to have Coach Dowse coming to lead our Lady Indians basketball program” Lumpkin County schools superintendent Rob Brown said. “He was extremely impressive during the interview process and his references raved about his work performance. He has a history of building successful programs and he has a clear plan for establishing excellence in the Lumpkin County girls basketball program.

“I am excited for Coach Dowse and for our girls to get started.”
