The outcome was never in doubt for the fifth seeded Lions in this first-round matchup with West Hall at North Hall High School on Wednesday, coasting into Day 2 of Lanierland with a 73-50 win over West Hall.

Griffin Sewell racked up a team-high 14 points for the Lions, including 10 in the first half. Three more starters scored in the double digits, with Drew Cottrell adding 12 followed by Evan Pitts and Josh Randolph with 10 apiece.

The Lions never let off the gas after back-to-back 3’s by Drew Cottrell and Jack Blackburn put them ahead to start the game and carried an 11-point lead into the second period. A Griffin Sewell 3-pointer kickstarted an 11-1 run that spanned over four minutes midway through the second, stretching the Lions’ lead to 23.

Sixteen of the Spartans’ 28 first-half points came from the free-throw line, shooting at 69 percent (16-of-23 attempts).

Xzavier Reid led the Spartans with 18 points.

Lakeview gets the winner of Gainesville and No. 1 seed Flowery Branch when the tournament continues at Gainesville High on Thursday.
