HS Scoreboard: Taylor Hawks tallies 1,000th point as Gainesville races past Cedar Shoals
Buford boys, girls both advance in Region 8-AAAA quarterfinals

Taylor Hawks scored her 1,000th point and the Gainesville Lady Red Elephants led wire-to-wire for a 55-32 win over Cedar Shoals Wednesday at Loganville High in the Region 8-AAAAA quarterfinals.

Gainesville (17-5) shot out to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter and led by 18 at halftime.

Gainesville next plays Loganville in Friday’s 8-AAAAA semifinal at Winder-Barrow. Tip time is expected to be at 4 p.m.

The Red Elephants totaled 38 rebounds on the night to go along with 17 turnovers.

Hawks led Gainesville with 17 points, Breana Fair and Sydney Payne both had eight points apiece, while Shikiya Brown scored seven.

BUFORD BOYS 61, MADISON COUNTY 52: The Wolves (14-11) punched their ticket to the state tournament with a 9-point win over Madison County.

Buford will next play Monroe Area in the 8-AAAA semifinals. The semifinal will tip off at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Stephens County in Toccoa.

BUFORD GIRLS 85, WHITE COUNTY 31: The Lady Wolves (21-4) earned their 11th straight trip to the state tournament behind a rout of the Lady Warriors Wednesday evening at Buford High.

The Wolves will play North Hall in a Region 8-AAAA semifinal at Stephens County. Tip time is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday.
Buford has won 15 of its last 16 games dating back to Dec. 21.

MONROE AREA BOYS 60, STEPHENS COUNTY 59: The No. 5 seeded Purple Hurricanes overcame an 8-point deficit with 2:34 to go to upset the No. 4 seed Indians at Buford High and book a spot in the 8-AAAA semifinals.

Monroe Area will next play Buford. The semifinal will tip off at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Stephens County in Toccoa.
