High school scoreboard: West Hall girls claim Cup title

The West Hall High girls soccer team defeated Chestatee 3-2 in overtime to win its first Northeast Georgia Mountains Cup title since 2005 on Friday at Allen Creek Soccer Complex.

Tania Perez scored the game-winning goal in overtime for the Lady Spartans (11-5), who have won five straight. The freshman had two goals in the game.

Sara Gibson also scored for West Hall early in the first half.

Daniela Sotelo scored both goals for the Lady War Eagles (11-5), helped by assists from Megan Fligg.

Perez and Gibson joined Kiley Kirkland and Elizabeth Gale on the All-Tournament Team. Kirkland was also named Tournament MVP, along with Fligg.

Fligg, Sotelo, Rachel Wright and Kelsey Neukum represented Chestatee on the All-Tournament Team.

West Hall wraps up the regular season when it plays host to ninth-ranked Creekview at 5:30 p.m. April 14. Chestatee visits Lumpkin County at 5:30 p.m. April 14.

Buford girls 2, Habersham Central 0

The Lady Wolves wrapped up the Northeast Georgia Mountains Cup as the winner of the consolation game Friday at Allen Creek Soccer Complex.

Moriah Mills and Lindsey White each scored for Buford (5-9). Lindsay Baxter and Natalya Jones each had assists. Caitlin Hollis recorded the shutout in goal.

Lady Wolves midfielder Katie Garth was named to the All-Tournament team.

Buford plays host to St. Francis at 5 p.m. April 12. Habersham Central (7-8) visits Savannah Christian at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Riverside Military 3, Lakeview Academy 1 (Thursday)

The Eagles secured a spot in the Class AA state playoffs with a win Tuesday in Gainesville.

Danny Vergara led Riverside (10-4, 6-1 Area 15-A/AA) with two goals. Ahmad Chehab also scored for the Eagles.

Lakeview’s (4-9, 1-5) season is now complete.

Johnson boys 3, Chestatee 1 (Thursday)

Gabriel Carrillo scored twice on assists by Vicente Trujillo to lead the Knights to their seventh straight win Thursday at Chestatee High.

Juan Morfin also scored for Johnson (12-3, 7-2 Area 7-AAA) on assist from Ruben Castro.

Anthony Ward was the lone scorer for Chestatee (6-10, 2-7).

BASEBALL

Gainesville 11, Gilmer 0

Andy Edmondson was a walk shy from pitching a perfect game, earning the no-hitter for the Red Elephants on Friday in Ellijay.

Edmondson was also 2-for-3 with four RBIs for Gainesville (8-7, 8-6 Region 7-AAA).

Jimmy Kemp, Mark Casper, Will Maddox and Eric Tarnacki also recorded hits for the Red Elephants.

Gainesville visits West Forsyth at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Creekview 7, East Hall 1

Creekview’s Christian Van Camp pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts to defeat the Vikings on Friday in Canton.

Cody Davidson, Justin Jackson, Nick Deaton, Hunter Poole, C.J. White and Drew Adams each had hits for East Hall (4-12, 3-11 Region 7-AAA).

East Hall plays host to Gilmer at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

White County 10, Johnson 1

The Warriors unloaded 14 hits and spread out their runs across six innings for a region win Friday in Oakwood.

David Sosebee won his third game of the year, pitching five innings with eight strikeouts for White County (7-8, 5-8 Region 7-AAA). He was also 2-for-2 at the plate.

Hayden Cummins was 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI for the Warriors. Bart Westmoreland was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI and Travis Rutkiewicz was 3-for-5.

White County plays host to Chestatee at 5:30 p.m. April 10. Johnson (2-13, 2-11) plays host to East Hall at 5:30 p.m. April 10.

Lakeview Academy 8, Prince Avenue Christian 7

Class A’s ninth-ranked Lions scored twice in the sixth inning to squeak past Prince Avenue Christian and stay unbeaten in region play Friday in Gainesville.

Ross Biegler was 4-for-4 and Ralston Cash was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Lakeview (11-1, 5-0 region 8-A).

Taylor Simpson earned the win in relief for the Lions, with Cash recording the save.

Lakeview visits Hebron Christian at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

TENNIS

West Hall boys 5, Flowery Branch 0

Brenden Worth, Jimmy Kincaid and Tyler Burgamy each won in straight sets for a sweep in singles Friday in Flowery Branch.

The team of Kyle Weatherly and Connor McFall and the team of Steven Backus and Trey Bowers completed the sweep for West Hall (9-6, 6-3 Region 7B-AAA).

West Hall visits Johnson at 4 p.m. April 13 to close out the regular season.
