The West Hall girls and the North Hall boys took top honors in the eighth annual War Eagle Invitational cross country meet Tuesday at Chestatee High School.

North Hall’s Lady Trojans came in second and Duluth secured a third-place finish. West Hall finished second overall in the boys meet and Duluth came in third.

West Hall’s Taylor Long and North Hall’s Brandon Lawson were the overall winners in their respective races.

Long won the girls race with a time of 20 minutes and 8 seconds, and Lawson won the boys race with a time of 17:09.

Finishing in second place for the girls was Victoria Rogers of North Hall with a time of 20:16. Sara Hayes of Gainesville High finished in third with a time of 20:43.

North Hall’s Luis Gonzalez finished in second place for the boys with a time of 17:15. Witt Nix, also of North Hall, secured a third-place finish with a time of 17:27.

Volleyball

LADY CHARGERS WIN IN STRAIGHT SETS: North Georgia Christian improved their record to 4-1 on Tuesday with a win over the Colonial Hills Christian Lady Rams in Lithia Springs. The Lady Chargers won 25-17, 25-18, and 25-20.

North Georgia Christian will be in action at 6 p.m. on Thursday at home against Grace Baptist.

WEST HALL TAKES TWO AREA MATCHES: The Lady Spartans defeated Walnut Grove 25-16, 25-11 and Chestatee 25-20. 25-13 Tuesday in Gainesville.

Laykin Herford had 29 assists on the night for West Hall.

The Lady Spartans’ LeNiesha Kearse led the team with nine kills, while Stephanie Rowland, Keli Jones and Tonya Bennett each added seven kills.

Carrie Ruis also had 13 straight service points for West Hall.

The Lady Spartans (12-1, 3-1 Area 8-AAA) travel to Jefferson to play East Hall in a tri-match at 5 p.m. on Thursday

LAKEVIEW SPLITS TRI-MATCH: In their first match, the Lady Lions beat Jackson County 25-12, 25-15 on Tuesday in Jefferson.

Molly Gay, Mona Abraham, and Bailey Towles had four aces each for Lakeview.

The Lady Lions lost to Prince Avenue in their second match 27-25, 25-24. Lindsey Brock, who had four kills in the Jackson County match had five more to go along with three digs for Lakeview.

Lakeview (9-7, 2-1 Area 8-A) hosts Rabun County, North Hall and West Forsyth in a quad-match at 5 p.m. on Thursday.

FLOWERY BRANCH WINS ON ROAD: The Lady Falcons beat North Forsyth in three sets 11-25, 25-23, 25-16 Tuesday in Cumming.

Brittani Hill and Amber Merchant each had six kills and three aces for Flowery Branch.

The Lady Falcons’ Colleen Grider tallied five kills, four aces and five digs on the night, while Kenzie Grewitt added 11 assists and three kills.

Flowery Branch (4-10, 3-2 Area 8-AAAA) plays an area match at Habersham Central at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

JEFFERSON 8, OGLETHORPE COUNTY 0: Cason Anderson went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and scored a run to lead the Lady Dragons offensively in a five-inning game on Tuesday in Jefferson.

Savannah Snapp was the winning pitcher, going all five innings and only giving up one hit for Jefferson.

The Lady Dragons (7-10, 5-1 Region 8-AA) travel to play Flowery Branch at 4:30 p.m. today in the first round of the Buford Invitational Tournament.
