Jessica Gunter pitched a no-hitter with eight strikeouts for Flowery Branch in an 11-1 win over Region 8-AAAAA opponent Gainesville in five innings on Monday at Lanier Point.

The Lady Falcons scored four runs in the fifth on a two-run single by Kelly Kahlert and an RBI single by Bailey Sims, who had three RBIs in the game.

The Lady Falcons play host to Salem on Thursday in Flowery Branch.

JACKSON COUNTY 8, OCONEE COUNTY 6: Peyton Sorrells and Jessica Baker combined to get the win from the circle for the Lady Panthers on Monday in Jefferson.

Andrea Ledford drove in the two go-ahead runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for Jackson County (8-10-1), and Shelton Kendrix went 2 for 2 with a pair of RBIs and a pair of runs scored.

In addition to recording the win, Baker was 2 for 3 at the plate with two RBIs. Victoria Fontana was 3 for 4 with two runs and an RBI.

Jackson County faces Elbert County tonight in Jefferson.

JACKSON COUNTY 7, NORTH COBB 2 (SATURDAY): Jordan Evans hit a three-run double in the top of the first inning to lead Jackson County to a win over North Cobb on Saturday in Kennesaw.

Alyssa Dasher had two hits and two runs scored for the Lady Panthers, and Victoria Fontana, Mason Garland and Shelton Kendrix drove in one run each. Madi Pecht, Jessica Baker and Whitney Kendrix all picked up hits in the game.

Jessica Baker picked up the win for the Lady Panthers, pitching a complete game.


LeNiesha Kearse led West Hall with 26 digs, 13 kills, and 12 blocks in a win over North Hall (23-25, 25-19, 25-11) and a loss to Blessed Trinity (10-25, 16-25) on Monday in Oakwood.

Kelsi Jones added 20 kills and six blocks for the Lady Spartans (13-7, 2-2 Area 5-AAA), and Carrie Ruis had 15 digs. Laykin Herford recorded 39 assists on the night.

West Hall returns to action against Habersham Central and Gilmer on Thursday in Oakwood.

Cross Country

Thirty-seven teams from Classes A-AAAA raced in the Clara Bowl at Berry College last weekend. North Hall’s boys took first place while the girls’ team came in third.

White County’s girls finished in second place, and freshman Jenna Gearing won the race in 19 minutes, 40 seconds, 33 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.

West Hall’s Taylor Long finished in fifth place in the girls run.
