High school scoreboard: Pair of no-hitters pace Lady Wolves to three wins

Tricia Warbington (2-0) pitched a no-hitter against Chestatee, and Melissa Dickie pitched a no-hitter against Jefferson to help the Buford softball team win three games Saturday at the Buford Invitational.

Playing three games on the day, the top-ranked Lady Wolves (11-2) started the day with a 6-2 win over Union County. Karly Fullem (5-1) pitched a complete game, striking out four batters to earn the win for Buford. Samantha Ramey went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs, Whitney Holman went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored for the Lady Wolves.

In the second game, Warbington fired a five inning no-hitter to lead the Lady Wolves to a 15-0 win over Chestatee. Warbington struck out six and surrendered two walks in the win.

At the plate, Alysha Rudnik went 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs, Ansley Kozlowski went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Chelsie Thomas went 4-for-4 with three runs scored.

In the nightcap, Dickie (4-1) struck out 11 Lady Dragons en route to a 8-0 five-inning win over Jefferson. Dickie helped herself out at the plate, going 3-for-3 with an RBI. Whitney Wolfe was also 3-for-3, and Rudnik continued her solid day offensively with a 2-for-3 performance.

Buford travels to Hillgrove High at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Cobb-Gwinnett Challenge.

VOLLEYBALL

Lady Spartans go 4-1 at Alcovy

West Hall beat Alcovy (25-11, 25-23), Salem (25-14, 25-13), Eastside (25-23, 21-25, 25-23), and Newton (25-20, 25-21) at the five-school play date Saturday at Alcovy.

The Lady Spartans (8-9) were led by Abigail Grindle (18 kills, 24 digs, seven aces), McKenzie Jackson (16 kills, two blocks), Kristen Holmes (10 kills, three blocks), Erica Grainger (10 kills, 29 assists, six aces), Sadie Cornett (19 assists, nine aces), and Jessica Hollis, who recorded 50 digs on the day.

Up next for West Hall is a critical area play date with Flowery Branch, Chestatee and North Hall that starts at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
